Pharos Systems has partnered with leading printer manufacturers to offer a new class of multifunction printers — “integrated multifunction printers” (iMFPs). Pharos software is embedded in the device, allowing users to access the interface to Pharos Uniprint and Off-The-Glass on the MFP’s built-in touchscreen control panel.
More than 250 MFPs from Canon, HP, Konica Minolta, Lexmark, Ricoh, Sharp, and Xerox are available as iMFPs integrated with Uniprint and Off-The-Glass. iMFPs for other leading printer vendors are coming soon.
To enable print security and job accounting, users must be authenticated before they can use an iMFP. The system is configurable with a card reader so that users can swipe their ID cards to authenticate themselves — or they can use the virtual keyboard displayed on the iMFP’s touchscreen to type a user ID. In either case, they can also be required to enter a password on the touchscreen keyboard for extra security.
iMFPs work in conjunction with the Secure Release Here® feature of Uniprint. When users print documents on their computer, their jobs do not go directly to a printer. Instead, they are held on a print server. When users need their printouts, they walk up to an iMFP, authenticate themselves, and use the touchscreen to select and release their jobs.
In addition to the convenience of having everything “in the box”, the iMFP solution delivers the following benefits:
