Pharos Systems has partnered with leading printer manufacturers to offer a new class of multifunction printers, which we call “integrated multifunction printers” (iMFPs). Pharos software is embedded in the device, allowing users to access the interface to Pharos Blueprint® Enterprise on the MFP’s built-in touchscreen control panel. A single device is thus capable of delivering not only print, copy, scan, fax, and e-mail services but also Pharos-powered authentication, print release, and print/copy accounting.
More than 160 MFPs from Canon, HP, Lexmark, Ricoh, Sharp, and Xerox are available as iMFPs. iMFPs for other leading printer vendors are coming soon.
To enable secure printing and job accounting, users must be authenticated before they can use an iMFP. The system is configurable with a card reader so that users can swipe their ID cards to authenticate themselves — or they can use the virtual keyboard displayed on the iMFP’s touchscreen to enter a user ID and password.
iMFPs work in conjunction with the Secure Release Here® feature of Blueprint Enterprise. When users print documents on their computer, their jobs do not go directly to a printer. Instead, they are held on a print server. When users need their printouts, they walk up to an iMFP, authenticate themselves, and use the touchscreen to select and release their jobs.
In addition to the convenience of having everything “in the box”, the iMFP solution delivers the following benefits:
