CSD PC-EFTPOS system: Set-up and Configuration

Set up the systems

The CSD PC-EFTPOS system must be installed and started before starting the PHAROS Station.

The CSD PC-EFTPOS Client must be installed on the same machine where the PHAROS Station will run.

For Windows NT, the CSD PC-EFTPOS client can be started from Control Panel/Services.

For detailed information of CSD PC-EFTPOS system installation, check web site http://www.dps.co.nz/.

Configure the PHAROS Station

1.      Run the PHAROS Administrator.

2.      Select the PHAROS Station context.

3.      Click the name of the PHAROS Station that needs to be configured.

4.      Select the General Tab in the Properties Window.

5.      Choose 'CSD Bank' in the Bank property field.

Configure the Interface

On the PHAROS Station machine, run PHAROS Station Logon DLL Configuration from Start/Programs/PHAROS 4.x.

Configuration form showing default settings.

1.      In the 'Interface Setting' group:

a)      To create a debug log file, click to check the box on the left of  'Do Logging', otherwise leave unchecked.

b)      If the receipt printer automatically cuts the receipts, check the box on the left of  'Cut Receipt Automatically', otherwise leave unchecked.

c)      If the PHAROS Station prints the receipts, leave 'Print Receipt Automatically' checked, otherwise uncheck the box.

d)      If the PINPAD has been installed on the station’s machine, leave 'Pinpad Installed' checked, otherwise uncheck the box.

e)      If the operator’s dialog boxes should be displayed, leave 'Show Operator Dialogs' checked, otherwise uncheck the box.

f)        Input a timeout value between 10 and 99. The suggested value is 30 seconds. This timeout is the maximum amount of time that the PIN Pad will wait for a reply from the EFTPOS system

2.      In the 'Receipt Print Setting' group:

a)      Choose the Receipt Printer from the drop-down list. The Receipt Printer must be the same as the printer that has been configured for the CSD PC-EFTPOS system.

b)      If a customized header or trailer is to be printed on the receipts, check the corresponding 'Enable' box, and input the text. To use the standard receipt, leave unchecked.

3.      Click the Save button to save the settings.

Check after power failure

If a power failure occurs:

1.      Restart the PHAROS Station.

2.      Check the Windows registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Pharos\Station\Pharos – CsdEftpos.

If a sub-key 'LatRecoveredTxnFromPinpad' exists, this means there was an uncommitted transaction at the time of the power failure. Compare the 'TxnReferenceNo' value with the same value of another sub-key, 'LastTxnState'. If these two values are the same, handle the uncommitted transaction by either refunding the user or manually inputting the transaction amount into the user’s account.

In this situation, there will be another text log file created on the 'Desktop'. The name of this file is 'Pharos_ListofFailedTxn.txt'. This file records the details of the last uncommitted transaction and information on the transactions which may not have been credited into the PHAROSDatabase, or the print jobs which may not have actually printed after they were paid for. The administrator needs to check this information against user’s EFTPOS receipts. The file can be safely deleted after the issue has been handled.
